Microsoft Terminal Server was originally a separate version of the operating system. It is now an integrated part of the base operating system and is enabled as a licensing option. Potential applications include telecommuting services and centralised application management. All current versions include base licensing for up to two connections for remote administration purposes. It can also provide windows based applications to non-windows client machines through alternative versions of the remote desktop client software.
